1-1.大学教員としての研究活動

(1)目標・計画

  • Continue research into team teaching, Native Teacher – Japanese Teacher of English collaboration
  • Continue research in testing and evaluation
    • Construct validity, and backwash effect of communicative testing at University level
    • Testing and evaluation at elementary school level (especially for upper grades)
  • Research in vocabulary acquisition and collocations

(2)点検・評価

  • Research into team teaching, Native Teacher – Japanese Teacher of English collaboration finished with a publication in 「STEP英語情報」 in March of 2008.
  • Results of research into backwash effect of communicative testing at the University level were presented last summer in the 全国英語教育学会 in Tokyo and are ongoing still.
  • A communicative test was drawn up and administered to all grade five students at Fuzoku Elementary school with the help of three outside Native speaker raters. Results are currently being analyzed.
  • Research in vocabulary acquisition and collocations was published in the 鳴門英語研究 journal this March

  • A task based approach to develop communicative practical language skills
  • Conduct communicative testing, focusing on rater reliability and construct validity
  • Introduce debate and discussion using topics from Junior and Senior high school English text books to prepare for teaching practice

初等英語科教育論

  • Teach teachers how to adopt a task based approach in class
  • Have teachers analyzing and critiquing tasks which have been done in elementary school
  • Have teachers designing their own tasks for elementary school students

実践英語研究I and 実践英語演習II

  • Focus on practical language skills such as classroom English
  • Discuss case studies on international issues

2.分野別

2-1.教育・学生生活支援

(1)目標・計画

  • Conducting a voluntary English communication meeting once a week for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Providing advice and assistance for students who would like to teach English at elementary schools.
  • Help with English E.S.S. club such as proofreading a guidebook for international students

Help with international students such as proofreading, providing assistance and advice with research, and so on.

(2)点検・評価

I have strived to meet all of the goals listed above. I have been conducting English club meetings (primarily for graduate level students) very Wednesday evening, and providing assistance to students who would like to teach at elementary schools. I have provided particular assistance to international exchange students, allowing them to view my lessons at Fuzoku Shogakkou, and attend lessons at Naruto University of Education on a non-credit basis. I have also assisted international students with research and have co-authored a research paper with a current international PHD student published in 全国英語教育学会紀要 in March, 2009.

2-2.研究

(1)目標・計画

  • Communicative testing is currently being conducted in my Oral communication classes and that process will be documented. I hope to justify the testing process with respect to theory and present it as a model for other teachers and researchers interested in communicative testing.
  • Further document the level gap at the elementary school level, particularly in upper grades, focusing on Fuzoku Shogakko and other public elementary schools in Naruto with the cooperation of the Naruto-shi kyoiku kenkyusho, as proposed in a kagaku kenkyuhi application, pending budget.
  • Revise and re-submit research on the effect of collocations on vocabulary acquisition
  • Submit current research on team teaching to the Eiken Step Test Magazine

  • As outlined above, I have been conducting research on communicative language testing in conjunction with classes at Naruto University of Education and presented research at the 全国英語教育学会.
  • A communicative test was administered to all grade 5 students at Fuzoku Elementary school as outlined above.
  • Research in collocations was published as outlined above.
  • My research on team teaching was recently published in the Eiken Step Test Magazine, as described above.

  • Conducted workshops for local elementary school teachers and visited numerous schools in Tokushima such as 鳴門第一小学校(2007年12月29日),鳴門第一中学校(2007年11月21日)、宍喰小学校(2007年11月14日) etc.
