                  Position Opening for Lecturer or Associate Professor

 

1. Affiliation: Advanced Practice of School Education (School Subjects Education), Music Education

 

2. Job type and the number of positions: One full-time Lecturer or Associate Professor 

 

3. Field of research: Vocal Music

 

4. Qualifications:

 (1)Master or doctorate degree, or the equivalent research achievements in the field concerned, and educational abilities. 

      NB: Research achievements must include at least one article or book

      NB: The successful candidate is expected to teach the Ph.D. program at the Joint Graduate School in the near future.

 (2) The ability to collaborate with teachers at schools for educational research

 (3) Active participation in university operations and professional contributions to society

 (4)  Japanese ability necessary to perform duties at Naruto University of Education, irrespective of the successful candidate’s nationality

 (5) Teacher’s license for primary school, for Music at junior high school, or for Music at senior high school in Japan, preferred

 

5. Courses to teach:

 Graduate courses:Basic Seminar on Vocal Music Education, Seminar on School Subject Content for School Music Education A & B,

 Seminar on Material Development for School Music Education A & B, Developmental Practice of Fundamental Ability as Teacher in

 School Education I & II, Practical Seminar on Subject Teaching for School Support I & II, Studies on Educational Practice I & II, and others

  NB: All of the above classes are taught by multiple teachers.

 Undergraduate courses:  Solfege, Vocal Music (including Chorus), Basic Vocal Music I & II, Singing I & II, Choral Music,

    Music in Elementary Schools I & II, Fundamentals of Educational Practice, Practical Seminar for the Teaching Profession, Graduation Study, and others


 

6. Date of Employment: April 1, 2024

 

7.  Length of Contract, etc.:The initial contract is for five years, with the possibility of tenure.

                 (The mandatory retirement age is 65.)

 (2) List of professional achievements (using the designated form)

 (3) Three principal works: one publication (book or article) and two musical performances  

    NB:   One principal publication:

                  Original, offprint, or photocopy is required.

                   In addition, the summary in Japanese (approximately 400 characters) is required.

         NB:   Two principal musical performances:  

                  A CD or CDs on which the performances are recorded, and the performance records (e.g., the concert program; original, offprint, or photocopy) are required.

                  In addition, description of each performance in Japanese (approximately 400 characters) is required.

 (4) Teaching and research plans at Naruto University of Education in Japanese (approximately 1,000 characters)

12. Additional information:

 (1)    It is suggested that the successful applicant should dwell in the vicinity of Naruto after employed.

 (2)    The application materials will not be returned. If the applicant wishes to have them returned,

            he/she must request so beforehand. The personal information the university has acquired in the selection process

            will be treated confidentially according to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information.

 (3)    In principle, finalists will be invited for an interview with a teaching demonstration at the university. Finalists’ expenses for travel and

            accommodation for the interview will not be reimbursed.

 (4)   The university has a policy for recruitment in which the decision is not to be influenced by applicants’ nationality or gender.

            In cases where two or more finalists are equal in qualifications and achievements, the university will give preference to female applicants.

 (5)    Even if the successful candidate is a local government employee prior to employment at the university, the university will not count

            his or her years of service as a local government employee in the calculation of his or her retirement allowance from the university.
