1. Affiliation: Advanced Practice of School Education (School Subjects Education), Music

 

2. Job type and the number of positions: One full-time Lecturer or Associate Professor

 

3. Field of research:Music Education and Piano

 

4. Qualifications:

    (1) Master or doctorate degree, or the equivalent research achievements in the field concerned, and educational abilities

   NB: Research achievements must include books or papers, and performances.

     NB: The successful candidate is expected to teach the Ph.D. program at the Joint Graduate School in the near future

    (2) A teacher’s license for elementary school, junior high school (Music) or senior high school (Music) in Japan

    (3) Preference will be given to the applicants who have teaching experience as a full-time teacher at elementary school,

            junior high school or senior high school.

      (4) The ability to collaborate with teachers at schools for educational research

      (5)  Active participation in university operations and professional contributions to society

      (6) Japanese proficiency necessary to perform duties at Naruto University of Education,

            irrespective of the successful candidate’s nationality

  Graduate courses:

  Seminar on School Subject Content for School Music Education A & B, Seminar on Material Development for School Music Education A & B,

    Classroom Instruction and Lesson Design for School Music Education A & B,

     Developmental Practice of Fundamental Ability as Teacher in School Education I & II, Practical Seminar on Subject Teaching for

     School Support I & II, Basic Seminar on Instrumental Music Education, Studies on Educational Practice I & II, and others 

  Undergraduate courses:

  Music Education in Elementary Schools, Theories of Secondary Music Education, Principles of Secondary Music Education,

     Teaching Materials for Music Education,Special Lecture on Theories of Secondary Music Education,

     Instrumental Music, Basic Piano I & II, Piano I &II, Music in Elementary Schools I & II, Practical Seminar for

     the Teaching Profession, Graduation Study, and others

 

6. Date of Employment: April 1, 2025

 

7. Length of Contract, etc.: The initial contract is for five years, with the possibility of tenure.

       (1) CV/resume (using the designated form with the applicant’s photo attached)

       (2) List of professional achievements (using the designated form)

       (3) Three principal works: two publications (book or article) and one musical performance
             NB:  Two principal publications:

    Submit the original, an offprint, or a photocopy.

                     In addition, the summary of each publication, in Japanese (approximately 400 characters) is required.

             NB: One principal musical performance:

                     Submit a medium or link that can be viewed on a computer, and a record of the performance such as

                     the program of the concert (a photocopy is acceptable).

                     In addition, a description of the performance in Japanese (approximately 400 characters) is required.

      (4) Teaching and research plans at Naruto University of Education in Japanese (approximately 1,000 characters)(free format)

12. Additional information:

    (1) It is suggested that the successful applicant should dwell in the vicinity of Naruto after employed.

 (2) The application materials will not be returned. If the applicant wishes to have them returned, he/she must request

         so beforehand. The personal information the university has acquired in the selection process will be

          treated confidentially according to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information.

 (3) During the selection process, the finalists will be invited for an interview (including a demonstration lesson on

        music education)at the university.

        The finalists’ expenses for travel and accommodation for the interview will not be reimbursed.

 (4) The university has a policy for recruitment in which the decision is not to be influenced by applicants’ nationality or gender.

          In cases where two or more finalists are equal in qualifications and achievements,

          the university will give preference to female applicants.

 (5) Even if the successful candidate is a local government employee prior to employment at the university, the university will not

          count his or her years of service as a local government employee in the calculation of his or her retirement allowance from

          the university.
