Master of Education

 

【The ideal applicant for admission】
 The Master of Education Program in the Graduate School of Education aims to educate people who can help solve diversified educational issues based on a broad perspective and specialized knowledge, and who can help improve the state of education in developing countries by applying their knowledge of the Japanese-style education system.

 

 We will admit applicants who aspire to become specialists, actively involved in improving education in school and society, including in developing countries. Applicants should have:

 

  • A desire to actively and creatively work to solve educational issues collaborating with schools, society (including global society), and households
  • High-level research capabilities through which they can pursue advanced specialized knowledge
  • The ability to translate this research into practice, by applying their findings in society and using them to solve concrete issues


【Selection policy】
 In principle, the selection for admission will be made by each Course and Field, on the basis of the score of a written examination or a short essay, and an oral examination.
 In particular, we will examine applicant’s specialized knowledge of the field, basic knowledge of research topics, enthusiasm and professional qualities.


 

Professional Degree Course

 

【The ideal applicant for admission】

 The Professional Degree Course (Teacher Graduate School) in the Graduate School of Education aims to educate teachers who possess advanced professional qualities and abilities (the abilities to teach, self-educate, and collaborate with other teachers) and who create new forms of educational practices to address a wide range of educational issues.

 

  The following kinds of applicants will be admitted:

 

  1. Current teachers who seek to acquire advanced practice-oriented skills, using their teaching experience as a foundation and aspiring to play a central role in subject teaching in schools around Japan. (Current teachers who will become teaching staff/supervisors who play leading roles in elementary, middle, and high school subject education)
  2. Current teachers who seek to acquire advanced practice-oriented skills, using their teaching experience as a foundation and aspiring to play a central role in directing school education from a higher-level perspective. (Current teachers who will become teaching staff/supervisors who play leading roles in such areas as educational administration, student guidance, and in-school training or in special needs education)
  3. Individuals who, based on their subject-related expertise acquired as undergraduates, aspire to acquire advanced instructional abilities in subject education and become teachers who can serve as strong team members in the shaping of schools. (Primarily individuals who will become teachers in middle and high schools)
  4. Individuals who, based on their qualities and abilities acquired as an undergraduate, aspire to enthusiastically engage in the teaching profession, acquire wide-ranging practice-oriented skills, and become teachers who can serve as strong team members in the shaping of schools. (Primarily individuals who will become teachers in kindergartens, elementary schools, special needs schools, etc.) 

 

【Selection policy】

 In particular, we will examine applicant’s specialized knowledge and practical skills required in the field, basic knowledge of practice-based research issues, enthusiasm and qualities as teachers.

 

College of Education

 

  Naruto University of Education hopes to admit candidates who meet the stipulated criteria, in order to produce professional teachers (elementary school teachers, middle school teachers, high school teachers, teachers for special needs education, kindergarten teachers, and nursery teachers), who will take charge of raising and educating children for the future of Japan, with humane qualities and a strong vocation for education and with extensive specialized knowledge and practice-oriented teaching skills. We are looking for the following profiles:
 

  1. Someone who feel a passion and have a strong vocation for teaching
  2. Someone who contributes to the growth of children and have a strong will to take part in their education process in the future
  3. Someone who have great insight, rich character and dynamism
  4. Someone who possess the expected basic knowledge to learn the teaching profession
  5. Someone who are able to apply both knowledge and skills to think logically and persistently strive to overcome challenges in the desired course subjects
  6. Someone with excellent communication skills, who can cooperate with all kinds of people and take on problems with a positive attitude
     

【Selection Method for Applicants】

 

  Applicants to be admitted for each course will be selected through either a general entrance examination (first and second period) or an examination for recommended candidates (type I and type II) in accordance with the criteria listed above.

  In order to properly recognize the applicants’ teaching talents and skills, we have implemented a multi-angled and comprehensive selection process which will require all of them to take an interview test, and depending on the course, the candidates may be required to go through additional selection methods, like writing a short essay or taking a practical skills test.
