In order to train and develop competent teaching personnel, this college has constructed and implemented its curriculum according to the following basic principles:
(1) Curriculum
We have established a core curriculum that train students to be teachers as an innovative practitioner who are capable of continuously learning for themselves as a teacher and creating teaching practice. More specifically, the subject categories which constitute this core are: ‘ICT and Practical Leadership Training’ , ‘Modern Educative Challenges’ and ‘Teaching Practice’ . With the core, the subject categories of ‘Basic General Education’ , ‘Specific Fields and Subjects Education’ and ‘The Teaching Profession’ complete the curriculum.
(2) Education: Implementation
Education will be conducted using a collaborative system in which the university faculty, mindful of their mission to educate students to become teachers, will exchange perspectives and information regarding basic abilities and attributes that school teachers are expected to possess. All the members of the teaching faculty will work together to implement a system that helps students heighten their awareness of themselves as members of society and grow to be teachers as an innovative practitioner. This will occur in a learning environment in which, through university life as a whole (including extracurricular activities and employment support), students can learn from each other and actively engage in their studies.
(3) Student Self-development
To ensure that students grow into teachers who will keep actively learning, they will keep a record of their learning process and its outcomes, and by continually reflecting on their practice-oriented educational abilities, they will be able to grow and clearly identify the occasional issues that may confront them.
(4) Education: Assessment
Each subject will have its own established objectives, all based on Naruto University of Education’s goal of developing capable teachers. The teaching personnel will let the students know these objectives, as well as the grading criteria and procedure. Additional criteria will be established to assess whether or not the students have obtained the qualities and abilities needed for teaching by integrating the knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired in classes and extracurricular activities. This, in turn, will enable us to assess the efficiency of the curriculum and devise improvement measures to guarantee the quality of education.
