HRT と ALT 共通の役割

  1. できるだけ児童にネイティブの発音を聞かせるため、基本的にALTが簡単な教室英語を使ってゲーム等の指示や説明をするようにします。(ALTは体全体を使ってジェスチャーをしながら行うようにすること。)児童にとってわかりにくい単語や内容が出たときは、学級担任(HRT)がジェスチャーを入れたり、日本語で簡単に支援したりするようにします。
  2. モデルを先に示すと、ゲームの説明を随分省くことができます。モデルはデモンストレーションの形でHRTとALTで協力して児童に見せます。
  3. 児童を褒めることはALTもHRTも必要です。できるだけ英語で褒めるようにしましょう。
  4. 活動の間はHRTもALTも積極的に参加します。児童を見回るときは、2人で分担し、児童をまんべんなく見回ることができるようにあらかじめ二人の分担を決めておくといいです。
  5. HRTは基本的にT1をすることになっています。授業のうちALTに一定の時間任せること(英語で活動の説明をする、英語で活動の指示を出す等)は可能ですが、そのときは事前にどのようなことを任せたいのか、打ち合わせをしておきます。

HRT の役割

  1. 活動の間HRTは基本的に、英語を使うモデルを見せることの他に、気になる児童の補助や学級のコントロール、児童の実態に応じて動くようにすることが主な役割です。
  2. HRTは児童が他教科でどのような内容を学んでいるかを知っています。HRTはゲームの中で学級に即したヒントを付けたしたり、他の教科で扱っていたりする内容と関連させて、児童の気付きの範囲を広げましょう。
  3. ALTだけではなく、HRTもできるだけ教室英語を使うように意識することが大切です。
  4. HRTはALTに授業でよかった点を伝え、改善点について意見を交換しましょう。授業後、可能なかぎり早めにすると効果的です。

HRT and ALT together

  1. In order to expose students to as much input as possible, ALTs can provide instructions for games and activities using plain classroom English and gestures. When students find words and content which is difficult to understand, HRTs can use gestures, and support them by using plain Japanese.
  2. Showing students a model beforehand reduces excessive instruction. Examples are often better than long explanations.
  3. It is necessary for ALTs and HRTs to praise students. Please try to praise them in English as much as possible.
  4. HRTs and ALTs should both positively participate in activities in class, helping students. If possible, ALTs and HRTs can discuss specifically how to support students systematically. For example, maybe the ALT can focus on one half of the class and the HRT can focus on the other.
  5. The HRT is supposed to be T1 in principle. The HRT may ask ALTs to take the T1 role at certain times (for example when explaining or modeling games). If the HRT wants the ALT to take this role, they should tell ALTs when planning the lesson.

HRT's Role

  1. HRTs know the whole class’ needs and characteristics as well as the needs of individual students. The HRT can provide better assistance with this knowledge than support teachers, ALTs, or guests. The HRT role is very important.
  2. HRTs also know what students are studying in other subjects. It is very meaningful to introduce other subject matter in English. Social Studies content, for example, can be very appropriate in English class as well.
  3. It is also important for HRTs to use classroom English as much as possible.
  4. If the HRT has feedback or constructive criticism for the ALT, they should discuss it after the class.
